BC Hydro Demand Response for Business Program

Turn the power down and the rewards up. BC Hydro is offering a risk-free program, earning your business rewards for shifting your electricity usage.

The Demand Response for Business program allows you to shift some of your electricity use out of peak times to reduce the demand on the system during these times. Demand-response events are simply short periods of high demand on our system, lasting no more than four hours each. If you shift your typical electricity, use to before or after a particular event, you’ll earn a reward.

You can earn $50 per average kilowatt (kW) reduced over the course of season. So, the more electricity usage you shift or reduce, the more you can earn. On average, you could earn $1,200 a season. Programs such as this are significant as reducing the peaks of electricity use helps our system as it allows the grid to operate more efficiently.

Once enrolled the program works in three easy steps:

1.     Alert: We’ll notify you via email at least 12 hours before each event. This also time to plan when and how the energy usage will be either shifted or reduced.

2.     Shift: Shift your typical usage to before or after the event. This can be done manually or through the automated demand response feature.

3.     Reward: If you’re successful, you’ll earn rewards at the end of the season.

There is no better time to be challenging yourself to reduce your electricity usage. Enroll today in the Demand Response for Business program and turn the power down and the rewards up. Some businesses in Mission may be eligible for a higher incentive ($75 per average kW) for demand response for business if they are in specific areas. We are in the process of updating the areas, but can be checked here or when you signup for the program you will be eligible for our summer season. Connect with them today to start saving!
