Elisabeth, the store's owner, always knew she wanted to be a hairstylist, but she also had always been a collector. She loved to accumulate things that she found beautiful. When she decided to open up her own salon downtown, the store that she chose was a little bit big for the one chair that she needed. "I had all this space," she recalls. "I didn't know what to do with it all."
Looking back on the early days, she remember her mother making the comment that her daughter had always been a collector.
"She suggested that I continue doing what I always loved to do to make up for the extra space."
Elisabeth say that the biggest help and support that she received was from her mother and her husband.
"I couldn't have done it without them."
Apostrophie is located downtown in what used to be an old vacuum shop - and the dust that settled over the years definitely took its toll.
"There was about 1 inch of build up on the concrete," Elisabeth shake her head as she remember the mess.
"My mother spent about a month on her hands and knees chiseling away at the floor."
Apostrophie + Co. was one of the first boutiques to open downtown and Elisabeth is happy that more and more seem to be opening up in the area.
"It brings more people downtown and that's what everyone wants."
